What’s poppin’?! I’m Adrian Devaughn Summers. I’m an Actor and Teaching Artist currently based in New York City, born and raised in the Boogie Down Bronx, NY.
After two years as an Actor in the Resident Acting Ensemble at Cincinnati Shakespeare Company, I have returned to NYC full-time.
I have recently discovered a strong interest in Shakespeare, because for too long, actors who represent the classical stage or whose performances are heralded on the classical, tend to not look like me.
I’m interested in creating and fostering an environment where Actors of Color can inspire, learn from, work and grow with people who are just as colorful as they are. People who are colorful as Shakespeare’s language is. We have a place in this world and in this work as Actors of Color, and it is a beautiful, vibrant, bold, and colorful one. I want to explore my colorful voice in this colorful work.
I am a leader who knows how to listen to others without ignoring what is inside. My friends describe me as artist who can synthesize details from seemingly disconnected spheres. I am a Black man who works too hard to fail.
